After the success of the mainland North District visit to Shetland last year, bridge players from Shetland visited the mainland North District, on 20th/21st May, in Aberdeen.
The thoroughly friendly weekend began with two teams of 8 matches between Shetland and mainland. Shetland were ahead after the first quarter in both matches, but the mainland players rallied and won both matches by margins of 2000 & 4000 points.
On Sunday afternoon, a pairs tournament was held consisting of 14 pairs. This was won by Ken and Heather Rae of Shetland.
The Shetland players, along with the North pairs then retreated to the Atholl hotel, where they were treated to an excellent meal before returning to the Bridge Club for a mixed teams event, a Shetland pair teaming up with a mainland pair. This event was won by Ken and Heather Rae, along with Donald Campbell and Lillian Keith.
All agreed that it had been an excellent weekend and that contact between Shetland and the mainland part of the North District be maintained.
