Our 2C is a Roman Two, showing 4-4-4-1 or 5-4-4-0, 10-15 points. We are bound to have 5-4 fit in Hearts or Clubs, hence my (East) rather pushy 3C. South's initial Double was a Game force and/or penalties. North's Clubs are rather thin for 3NT and you would expect 6 Hearts in the South hand for his 3H bid. I would rather bid 4H which would play well.
A small Club is led to South's Ace and the 10S was played. Partner nipped up with the Ace and played KC and then JC (unblocking). North then plays the 9H, covered with the Jack to the Ace. Took his KQH, and, as it was the penultimate board of the evening, (and maybe too many nips) gave me my 8H and I have 2 Club tricks for minus one. The Diamond finesse is successful. It should be 2 Clubs, 3 Diamonds, 3 Hearts and 1 Spade for 9 tricks. |
