The format for this annual match is 12 pairs v 12 pairs, 3 boards per round, aggregate scoring.  The bidding competitive, and if we'd been vul., I would only have bid 3D in case of a double.  South, probably thinking his A10 would catch something in my hand, led the 5 of Clubs to the 9JK, and now a small Spade to the Q and K.  Small Club returned to South's 10.  A long pause, and then the 3H to the 2-8 and my Jack.  Now I take the winning Spades, discarding the D7 and then 2 Hearts, and South has to find a discard, and, after a bit thought, discards the 9D, thinking his Heart holding would take the Contract light.  Small to the AKD and back to my Jack for 4 Diamond tricks, 3 Spades, 1 Club and 1 Heart.  A very lucky 3NT.  They were both unhappy when we left the table, South thinking North should take his Ace of Hearts to prevent me an entry for my Spades, and North ditto for not taking his Ace of Clubs.  They both had valid points and it is so easy at double Dummy.  If my partner had gone to the trouble of bidding 3 Clubs, I would be inclined to lead the AC and then the 10.
